Today we’re going to learn how to play Creep by Radiohead on Ukulele. This song established Radiohead as superstars of the ‘90s.
However, it was not a cakewalk for this British band. Interestingly, Creep did not have chart success when it was initially released in 1992. It was reissued in 1993 and only then became a worldwide hit, frequently bunched together with other Grunge hits. Creep became such a massive hit, that Tom Yorke eventually grew tired of playing it. However, it is still one of the most searched songs in how-to-play sites and videos. Without further ado, here is how to play Creep by Radiohead on ukulele.
Chords
Creep features only four chords the whole way through. Talk about easy! Those chords are G, B, C and Cm. To play G, place your index finger on the third string second fret, middle finger on the first string second fret and your ring finger on the second string this fret. To play B, bar the second fret with your index finger. Hold that bar and then place your middle finger on the third string third fret, followed by the ring finger on the fourth fret fourth string.
To play C, simply slide the entire B chord one fret up. I told you this was easy! Finally, for the C minor just lift your middle finger. Naturally, the bar chords add some difficulty to this song, but the fact that it only features four chords compensates nicely. If you still have issues with bar chords, don’t despair. If you practice, it’s just a matter of time before you can have them under control.
Strumming pattern
We’re going to use a relatively simple strumming pattern of D, D, D, D-U, U-D, D-U-D-U. Start off slowly and gradually speed up. If you are a perfectionist, feel free to use a metronome to track your progress. Check our tuner which features a metronome as well.
If you are just starting out and this strumming pattern is too advanced for you, I’ve got a solution. Just use downstrokes for simplicity. In other words, stroke each chord eight times with a relaxed downward motion.
